HAWK is a state university in Lower Saxony with more than 6,000 students. The university has strong regional roots and excellent national and international networks. One reason for this is certainly its roots, which go back to the 19th century at the Holzminden site, for example.
The HAWK University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen is seeking to fill the following 3-year fixed-term position at the Faculty of Engineering and Health at the Göttingen site as of 01.09.2024:
Bioinformatician (m/f/d)/Data Scientist (m/f/d) (E 13 TV-L, full-time)
As part of the DFG project FLIX-Nanopore, we are investigating an innovative method for in vivo mapping of transcription factor-DNA interactions using femtosecond laser crosslinking and advanced nanopore sequencing to study gene regulatory networks.
The aim of the project is to combine information from DNA-protein interactions (modification analysis) and long-read sequencing data to establish a new method for exploring genomic structural information.
As part of the project, you will perform the following tasks:
- Establishment of a coherent analysis workflow of long-read sequencing results in collaboration with natural scientists (m/f/d) and benchmarking of pipelines for pre-processing and analysis of DNA datasets (GWAS, WES, WGS)
- Preparation of analysis and validation of genome sequencing results
- Development and implementation of new bioinformatics workflows
- Performing functional and structural genomic analyses to answer molecular biology/biomedical questions
- Responsibility for the bioinformatic analysis of raw nanopore sequencing data, classification of the data according to the current state of research and extension of the analysis methodology with regard to basecalling and identification of modifications
Your profile
- Completed studies (Master, Diploma, PhD) in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, biology or a related discipline with relevant professional experience in genomics, NGS (next generation sequencing) and bioinformatics
- Practical experience in analyzing NGS data (especially nanopore long-read sequencing) and developing bioinformatics methods in this field of work
- Solid programming experience and extensive knowledge in the use of common scripting languages (R, Python, C++, etc.) and background in deep learning network training
- Experience with Git, Linux, high-performance computing, pre-processing and analysis of high-throughput data
- Knowledge of statistical methods in connection with biological systems
Desirable
- Experience in working with biological databases
- Expert knowledge of transcriptomics, proteomics or multi-omics data
- Knowledge of setting up analysis pipelines (Snakemake, Nextflow)
- Enthusiasm for genome analysis in the context of basic research and interest in its further development
- Support in the analysis and interpretation of bulk and single-cell sequencing data and the formulation of further hypotheses/research questions
There is the possibility of a PhD.
The HAWK sees itself as a place where opportunities are made possible. For this reason, the person holding the position is also expected to have an equality-oriented and diversity-friendly approach within the faculty and with the students.
Prof. Dr. Rußmann () will be happy to answer any technical questions.
