Lumen’s Black Lotus Labs is looking for a talented software & systems engineering leader for a team that builds petabyte-scale software and systems that help find malicious attackers, botnets, and other types of nefarious activity on the Internet. Black Lotus Labs is Lumen’s threat research and operations arm tasked with leveraging this visibility to identify, track and help mitigate Internet threats. ? The Main Responsibilities MUST TAKE HIREVUE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ROLE This Software Engineering Manager role is responsible for the on-going execution of software development and engineering to support the growth of our big-data ecosystem that enables threat hunting within our network data sets. This leader helps serve the team by: – Being a key supporter of the on-going professional growth of the individuals on the team through coaching and mentorship – Collaborates closely with the team and peers to align on direction and prioritization of work – Advocates and communicates the impact & results of the team’s work with leadership and other teams throughout the company – Understands needed delivery timelines and expectations and helps ensure they are met – Writes code as a manner to communicate and share ideas with the team – Works with the team to set expectations for roles and results and helps hold the team accountable to meeting them What We Look For in a Candidate Our ideal candidate is someone who has a strong interest in growing more as a people leader, is passionate about technology, loves building solutions to challenging problems, and still does some form of technical work as their current role, or for fun as a hobby to keep skills sharp. – Prior experience successfully supporting multi-disciplinary team(s) as a people leader – Prior experience in a technical role as a software developer/engineer/architect or lead security engineer/architect – Ability to communicate complex technical ideas and concepts to non-technical people – Demonstrated success leading the rapid delivery of innovative and impactful results Required skills / qualifications – Excellent verbal and written communication skills – 5 years or more years’ experience as a people leader – Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in computer science, telecommunications, business, information technology or related field Preferred skills – Experience running software development lifecycle using scrum or other agile methods – Knowledge and/or prior experience in information security, or telecommunications – Experience leading teams responsible for big data analytics (Hadoop, Spark, etc) – Experience with configuration management tools such as ansible, salt, chef, etc – Experience programming in one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Ruby, PHP, Perl, or Python – Experience with system, network, or security administration/engineering in a Unix-based environment What to Expect Next Based on your job application information you may be given the opportunity to complete a video interview immediately after applying.
