We are looking for an expert in environmental regulations relating to emissions to the environment.
In this role, you will assess and evaluate any proposed changes in the regulation and enforcement of our operational activities, understanding the implications for the business, particularly regarding permitting and compliance, and ensuring such changes are effectively communicated.
What you’ll be doing as an Environmental Regulatory Specialist
– Be an expert in environmental legislation, Environment Agency or Industry guidance and apply it to operational situations such as new site investment & emerging technologies.
– Working with technical specialists across the team, representing the Company in WaSCs and Regulator meetings and workshops where such proposals are discussed, making judgement decisions on the appropriateness of proposals, and lobbying for alternative options or solutions when appropriate.
– Keep up to date on changes or proposed changes to environmental legislation, Environment Agency or Industry guidance and effectively brief and communicate to all relevant teams
– Be responsible for the technical development & training related to changes in Environmental Permitting or Permit template requirements.
– Act as an interface on issues relating to the interpretation of, and compliance with, Environmental Regulations & legislation and Environmental Permits.
– Support in the performance reporting of key permitting programmes and produce written papers or slide decks to brief the Senior Manager & the Exec.
Base Location – in this role you can work remotely with occasional visits to the office 1-2 times per month to an office based in Reading, Clearwater Court.
Working hours – 36 hours per week Monday to Friday.
What you should bring to the role
– Proven knowledge of environmental legislation. Ideally background in the waste or water sector.
– You must possess excellent communication and influencing skills as a big part of this role will be liaising with external parties and across different levels of stakeholders within the business, especially the Environment Agency.
– Preferably educated to a Degree level or equivalent in a scientific or environmental discipline.

You will have the opportunity to utilise your knowledge and experience in this sector and contribute to the implementation of permitting and compliance, supporting the delivery of significant key areas including Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), storm overflow projects and WINEP delivery, with the overall emphasis on protecting future compliance & optimised delivery of schemes.
– Competitive salary up to £54,000 per annum.
