Main Purpose of Job
Our client’s customer has delivered two ‘on-premise’ multi-tenant cloud hosting platforms to support the digital strategy. There are several live applications on the Hosting platform, a number currently being on-boarded with more being added to the backlog. The service also provides and hosts services that replace / re-platform existing applications along with new services. The cloud hosting services are not static, new services are being introduced to meet demand and requirements for cloud tenants and application providers as required.
The successful candidate will work as an infrastructure DevOps engineer within the engineering team to build and enhance infrastructure automation tooling for the delivery of an efficient and high-quality private cloud hosting service.
Key responsibilities
Enhance and provide new services to monitor existing private cloud multi-tenant hosting capabilities at multiple classifications
Provide operational level tooling and monitoring capabilities to enhance and improve service operations and tenant experience as well as provide enhanced support and alerting to internal and external infrastructure teams, service providers and tenants.
VMware Log and network insight – design, deploy, troubleshoot and manage to a 3rd line level
Deployment and management of Splunk with an application monitoring and alerting use case, also within a tenant specific application monitoring context.
Experience in reviewing existing monitoring services, providing guidance on enhancing current services
Experience / Skills Required
• Experience of digital project delivery into the MOD and/or central UK Government clients.
• Exposure to highly secure / operational / mission critical environments
• Must have operational experience in a production setting with VMWare Cloud Foundation operations, including, VMware Aria Operations, VMware Aria Operations for Logs
• Experience with Splunk, ideally including log forwarding to a central service provider.
• Experience with security tooling such as Nessus
• Additionally, it would desirable to have experience with Aria Automation (formally VRA), Grafana & Prometheus
• Foundation level knowledge or awareness of IT Service Management (ITIL Best Practice)
• Experience and knowledge of VMWare and COTS hardware/software including MS Server and Linux operating systems
• Cyber security within IT environments, ideally with MoD and secure environments
Technical documentation creation
• Awareness of, Scrum and Agile methodologies & Systems Engineering
Attendance onsite at MOD Corsham will be required 1 day a week, in additional to occasional travel to Portsmouth, and the balance as flexible.
Occasional attendance at company offices in Surrey
