in the field of IT infrastructure management for the development and expansion of a laboratory network

Duration of employment: as soon as possible, temporary according to § 14 (1) TzBfG for a period of 36 months
Remuneration/salary: E 12 – E 13 TVöD Bund, tariff area West (possibly with IT allowance)
Scope of employment: full-time or part-time
Unit 506 “Laboratory IT” has the task of providing the specialist departments of the BVL with scientific IT optimized for the laboratories and operating the necessary basic services. The laboratory network is a heterogeneous IT landscape with different operating systems and various complex systems and devices, from control computers to IoT devices and NGS systems.
What are your tasks?
- Responsibility for the further development and operation of the IT infrastructure of the science network and the basic services it contains
- Development of IT infrastructure solutions, taking into account the necessary framework conditions (e.g. BSI specifications, federal architecture guidelines)
- Evaluation of new technologies and their use for the expansion of the IT landscape, including solutions such as virtualization and automation
- Project work from requirements analysis and planning of IT infrastructure technology to technical application and implementation
- Technical coordination with external service providers and BVL representatives as well as internal departments
- Ensuring the security and stability of the IT infrastructure landscape and the services operated within it
- Documentation of technical decisions, changes and use of the IT infrastructure and services operated therein
- Administration in direct IT operations (e.g. in monitoring or virtualization)
What qualifications do we expect from you as a minimum?
- Completed university degree (Master’s or university diploma) in the field of computer science, information technology or a comparable degree or comparable knowledge and skills
- Several years of experience in the relevant job profile, e.g. in the operation of IT infrastructure, IT basic services
- Very good German language skills (at least language level C1)
- Good English language skills (at least language level B2)
What requirements should you also meet?
- Knowledge and experience in the field of virtualization of IT systems (e.g. with VMWare or OpenSource solutions)
- Knowledge and experience in the field of IT automation (e.g. via Ansible for Linux and Microsoft)
- Experience in the planning and further development of complex IT architectures
- Experience in the operation of basic IT services (DHCP, DNS, resource management, etc.)
- Experience in the documentation and presentation of complex, technical contexts
- Experience with programming languages/script programming (e.g. Python, Bash, Powershell)
- Knowledge of cloud services (e.g. Infrastructure-as-a-Service [IaaS], Software as a Service [SaaS])
