Responsibilities

Accurately codes charts of discharged patients; abstracts pertinent data; assigns DRGs to inpatient accounts. Interacts with other medical personnel, including physicians and CDI nurses, to obtain optimal coding on each account. Must be able to code based on Risk Adjustment principles in accordance with all ICD-10 guidelines.

Compensation for the role is $31.36-$40.38 hourly

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

* High School graduate with courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, ICD 10 CM & ICD 10 PCS coding required.

Required Certification/Registration:

* CCS/ CIC, with minimum six months recent progressive inpatient facility coding experience, OR RHIT or RHIA with at least one year of recent progressive full time inpatient coding experience.

* All candidates must pass a competency exam to qualify.

Physical Requirements:

* Mostly sedentary with heavy use of computer and code books.

* Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.

* Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
