The Sr. Director, Information Technology (IT) for the Genetic Sciences Division (GSD) within the Life Sciences Group is responsible for developing and implementing IT strategies to ensure the secure and efficient operation of our enterprise applications, infrastructure, operational technology, and communications systems.

Key Responsibilities:

As a key member of the Division Leadership Team, you will collaborate closely with our overall IT organization to see to the seamless delivery of IT services. This role holds accountability for owning the Division IT budgets, providing leadership to multi-discipline IT professionals, influencing delivery from our shared services, and supervising external vendor relationships.

GSD is known for its expertise in analytical instrumentation and consumables across the industry, relies on your leadership to drive innovation, optimize operational efficiency, and support the team’s strategic objectives.

What will you do?

  • Provide consultative strategic and ongoing leadership for planning, development, delivery and coordination of information services and initiatives ensuring they are aligned to the business’ strategic imperatives
  • Be responsible for the division’s IT budget and program portfolio
  • Serve as a senior leader within our Life Sciences IT Group function
  • Work multi-functionally with other IT, Digital and Group / Division leadership to broaden Company capabilities
  • Establish and measure the short- and long-term value of investments in the IT portfolio
  • Provide status reporting to IT and executive leadership; call out and lead risks at the appropriate levels within IT and the business; establish clear metrics
  • Ensure our information security and compliance posture, activities, and practices are robust within the Division

Business Partnership & Relationship Management

  • Build the comprehensive long-range strategy alongside your business partners, with focus on extended IT services for efficiency and revenue enablement
  • Develop a comprehensive digital transformation portfolio supporting our customer and internal initiatives
  • Lead the analytics and automation needs across the various businesses and act as a motivator for innovation within the overall leadership team
  • Possess a detailed understanding of the long-term vision for all business areas supported, making decisions that support the company’s strategic priorities, and helping craft these priorities through influence
  • Build and evolve the technology roadmap to ensure that our capabilities continuously improve and evolve with the business and implement toward digital transformations
  • Work along-side our marketing, R&D, and manufacturing operations functions in delivering leading solutions and applying the scale of the company for innovation

People Development

  • Identify and lead all aspects of the development of talent strategies, workforce planning, succession planning and career development for the department, keeping in mind talent and opportunities within Thermo Fisher’s IT and Digital functions.
  • Actively evaluate and develop people and organizational capabilities to set a human resource strategy which accelerates business growth and drives value

Financial

  • Manage to an annual operating budget; and a capital program budget working closely with functional partners
  • Forecast and plan for future financial needs for existing application management and projects
  • Collaborate within IT to ensure adequate flow of project information, resourcing, and budgeting
  • Compare, contrast and benchmark services or costs against others

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Sciences, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

10 years related experience leading IT/Digital teams, to include senior-level leadership experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience working in high-tech capital equipment, life sciences, and/or semiconductor industries is desired
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Ability to develop and implement a Digital/IT strategic plan and be an authority on the senior business staff
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and methodology with leadership experience
  • Authoritative knowledge of information technology industry and the direction it is headed
  • Proven knowledge in customer engagement digital capabilities in high-tech and capital equipment markets is preferred
  • Working knowledge of assays, arrays, reagents, and instrumentation for manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated business leadership and management ability with robust presentation skills
  • Excellent social skills and the ability to work in a highly matrixed environment
  • Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to management, customers, and employees
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other senior leadership members
  • Effective team building, organizational and staff development skills

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $231,000.00–$346,775.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
