Description The Department of University Relations at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Front End Web Developer. About the Opportunity Assists with visual design (including client-intake to define website goals and user needs, research, and information architecture) and front-end development (building templates, setting up a site in a CMS) of WVU websites. Must be personable and a good communicator. Must know how to build templates for a content management system using HTML, Sass, and templating languages such as Liquid. Knowledge of Javascript a plus. Must have knowledge of web accessibility and WCAG guidelines and be able to troubleshoot accessibility issues accordingly. Uses version-control software (Git) to collaborate with other designers on our team. Provides assistance building HTML email templates. Must be familiar with Google Analytics and be a resource for those looking for insights on how to interpret Analytics data, as well as recommend ways to improve user experience based on Analytics data. Wellness programs What you’ll do: Under the direction of the Director of University Relations-Digital or in collaboration with more senior staff, this position is responsible for the following: Possesses a thorough understanding of HTMLS, Saas and responsive web design Write clean, minimal, well documented HTML markup and Sass Be enthusiastic to learn new technologies Understand the importance of web accessibility and actively checks work to meet federal accessibility standards and requirements with the WCAG standards Know how to create template for a content management system (CMS) Must be able to learn HTML email composition and testing platforms Must be able to familiarize themselves with a CRM or email management systems like Mailchimp, Blackbaud, or Constant Contact Able to create websites from inspiration to completion (client intake, content audits, wireframing, branding, etc.) Have a strong sense of craftsmanship and design Able to communicate well with clients and explain the design process clearly Have excellent verbal skills with co-workers and team Provide support for creating student organization websites and Faculty websites Attend Digital Admissions group meetings and shares ideas Must be familiar with Google Analytics and be a resource for those looking for insights on how to interpret Analytics data, as well as recommend ways to improve user experience based on Analytics data. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia or related field 3 or more years: Experience working on Web design mockups in Photoshop, Figma, Illustrator or XD Experience converting Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, or XD designs into HTML and CSS/Sass Experience integrating designs into a content management system Experience developing mobile-friendly websites 2 or more years experience creating HTML emails Knowledge of HTML email authoring techniques Demonstrated skill in coding HTML and Sass (Javascript a plus) Demonstrated skill in creating HTML email templates Demonstrated skills with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, or XD Demonstrated skills creating responsive websites Familiarity with HTML/CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap Demonstrated skill in applying accessibility techniques and best practices Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple simultaneous requests and project About WVU At West Virginia University, we leverage our talents and resources to create a better future for our state and the world.
