Job Title: Technical Business Analyst – (BI)

Location: UK Remote

Fixed Term Contract / Option to convert to Perm

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst with a strong focus on Business Intelligence, particularly in the context of a highly complex migration project from Cognos to Tableau. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of BI systems, data structures, and migration processes. The primary responsibility of this role is to guide and oversee the intricacies of the migration, ensuring a seamless transition and optimization of business intelligence capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Migration Expertise:

  • Lead and drive the migration process from Cognos to Tableau, understanding the complexities and challenges associated with such a transition.
  • Analyze existing Cognos infrastructure to identify key data components, data models, and dependencies that need to be considered during the migration.

2. Guidance and Consultation:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in Business Intelligence, providing guidance to the project team on best practices, potential pitfalls, and optimization opportunities during the migration.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data users, analysts, and IT teams, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of business requirements and data needs.

3. Data Quality and Governance:

  • Assess and define data quality rules and standards in both Cognos and Tableau environments.
  • Collaborate with data governance teams to establish and enforce data quality measures, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of migrated data.

4. Data Modeling:

  • Evaluate and document existing data models in Cognos, and translate them into equivalent or enhanced models in Tableau.
  • Collaborate with data architects and modelers to optimize data structures and relationships in Tableau for improved performance and usability.

5. Documentation:

  • Create comprehensive documentation for the migration process, including data dictionaries, data lineage, and mapping documents.
  • Document any changes or enhancements made to data models, ensuring transparency and traceability.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst in Business Intelligence projects, with a focus on migrations.
  • Expertise in Cognos and Tableau platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex data structures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of data quality principles and experience implementing data governance practices.
  • Knowledge of best practices in data modeling and the ability to optimize data structures for reporting and analysis.
