JOB DESCRIPTION:

Support the Department of Energy (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Labs (PNNL) in the design and development of IT Architecture and all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC). The Cloud Architect must have demonstrated experience successfully architecting large, complex systems using a wide array of technologies. As technical leader of the Assessment Team, transform the use of Cloud for worldwide science, energy, and national security applications while driving the evolution and adoption of cloud-enabled solutions.

Duties and expectations include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide clarity and technical direction, promote excellent communication and collaboration, and create compelling solution adoption techniques.
  • Energize the team in evolving operations, communications, and collaboration.
  • Provide cloud-first thought leadership and be a catalyst for change.
  • Architect new cloud migration blueprints that can be leveraged as reusable workstreams for project teams and Cloud Engineers by finding similar process steps
  • Work with Intelligent Automation Architects in developing automated workflows for repeatable tasks
  • Cloud Strategy Development

  • Familiarity with managing large data sets

Experience Requirements:

Mandatory:

  • Extensive professional experience in cloud architecture, solution design, and implementation.
  • 5 years of related professional experience in designing and implementing Cloud services in various distributed computing environments and leading highly available and web-scale software deployments
  • Subject matter expertise with Cloud Service Providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience implementing, migrating, managing, and operating systems/applications in an enterprise cloud computing environment
  • Experience writing technical documentation, especially in relation to Cloud architecture
  • Experience creating and presenting technical analysis, findings, and recommendations to leadership
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills to present insights to clients.
  • Proven ability to adapt to highly dynamic requirements.
  • Microsoft Excel advanced level

Preferred:

  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Multiple Cloud Certifications (listed above)
  • Programming experience with at least one language such as Java, Python, or C++ including object-oriented design, development, and relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server

Certification Requirements:

Mandatory: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect.

Waiverable/Substitutable: Other equivalent cloud certifications

Education Requirements:

Mandatory: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
