Job Description Consulting Engineer – Functional Safety/Cyber Security (Remote) Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world’s leading brands and companies, is actively seeking a Consulting Engineer – Functional Safety/Cyber Security (Remote) to join our Electricalteam, reporting out of our Plano, TX office. About the Team Intertek’s Electrical business line applies product testing expertise quickly and efficiently to help clients meet safety, performance, environmental and quality requirements for every market they wish to enter. Our Electrical team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification for a variety of electric products, including appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, information communications technology, HVACR, industrial, and energy transmission and distribution. What are we looking for? The Consulting Engineer roleoffers independent advice on engineering, science and/or other related topics to companies and government organizations. The Consulting Engineer position assists in providing more efficient services to clients and independently conducts on and off-site evaluations to determine specific solutions for each customer. Location – Remote within the U.S. What you’ll do: Independently conduct on and off-site evaluation to customer specific requirements. Research, read and determine applicability of national codes and standards. Validate the project scope and sample applicability. Conduct thorough design review and document results. Coordinate and lead client meetings/discussions. Provide sales support for any and all scoping requirements including direct customer presentations. Supply information for quotes such as length of project, resources and samples required, and standards that will be used. Provide more specialized “expertise” in one product category, i.e., become subject matter expert, or obtain and maintain advanced product knowledge. Identify project needs and sample requirements for effective resource planning and meeting of client’s expectations. Perform technical assessments and analysis of specifications of projects and implement necessary solutions. Provide specialized “expertise” in Functional Safety across various product types, including Machinery, Robotics, Energy Storage, and other emerging technologies. Conduct Risk Analysis, HARA, HAZOP, LOPA, Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Modes, and Effects Analysis. Assist customers with process and documentation development. Provide the necessary support during the duration of projects to ensure the needs of the customer are met. Perform other work as required. What it takes to be successful in this role: Bachelor’s degree in engineering 5+ years direct experience in fields such as Regulatory and Compliance, Electrical, Safety, or International Trade. Experience with IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, UL 1998, UL 991, UL 60730 or other functional safety standards Experience with IEC 62443 or other cybersecurity standards Understanding of Industrial, Robotic and Commercial Functional Safety requirements. A candidate who is willing to learn new technologies and research relevant safety requirements. An individual who enjoys research and working independently to develop solutions, who also has the ability to report and work with a team to implement solutions. Knowledge and experience in industries such as Industrial Controls, Oil and Gas, Transportation, Robotics, Laser Technology and Energy Storage is considered a plus, but is not required. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time. A valid driver’s license and reliable driving record is required. This is a remote position; however, applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States. Preferred Requirements & Qualifications: Mechanical or Electrical engineering degree Advanced degree in engineering Prior project management/design experience PE License Demonstrated experience with global regulatory compliance.
