The Design Value Stream function supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through proper technical product and engineering principles as well as appropriate development of employees and management. The Design Value Stream is a business unit that encompasses quoting, engineering, quality, project management, production planning and procurement. Job Type This role is contract-to-hire. The expected duration of this contract is 3-6 years but may be shorter or longer depending on the needs of HTI’s contract with its customer. Upon completion of the contract, extended employment may be available based on HTI’s needs at that time. Job Description and Duties: Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position. Engaged as primary engineering analyst utilizing company Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to support the needs of the Design Value Stream. The analyses may include, but are not limited to, computation fluid dynamics (CFD), stress/structural analyses, frequency analyses, and thermal analyses. Produce reports to summarize and present results of FEA simulations. Provide recommendations to optimize or improve designs based on results of simulations. Utilize company hydraulic design software to support the creation of new hydraulic designs. Author, check, and approve documents and drawings as needed to support unit contracts. Support unit design as assigned by the Engineering Manager, including engineering and mechanical design, material selection, executing against established engineering design schedules, compliance to various design Codes and contract requirements, producing progress reports, and all other activities associated with unit design from an Engineering perspective. Collaborates with the Engineering Manager in recommending appropriate mechanical design strategy for conceptual and product development, task and priority determination, setting deadlines, assuring that targets are met, and identifying additional training courses for employees to succeed in various positions. Performs, checks, approves, and mentors engineers in most types of calculations, design and analysis, and test validation using both computer aided and manual techniques. Utilizes customer and vendor data and works with other disciplines as required in the performance of design activities. Performs self-check of completed work, develops self-confidence, mentors, counsels and provides guidance to peers and team as directed by the Engineering Manager. Promotes in-house mechanical design excellence by suggesting design, and analysis tools, processes, techniques and process improvement. Secondary Duties Activities outside the scope of unit design may include providing and or utilizing Engineering Department resources to provide technical oversight to support:
- Application and Aftermarket Sales – in the preparation of proposals, application of products, interpreting specifications, providing supplementary information and modifications to assure compliance to application requirements.
- Shop and Field Service – provide technical assistance to existing clients in the operation, installation, maintenance of Hayward Tyler provided equipment.
- Manufacturing – Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing floor as required to achieve specified design requirements and resolution of conflicts that arise in attaining specified design and contractual specifications.
The above described duties require well developed analytical skills as may be applied to rotating mechanical equipment design and analysis. This would include stress analysis, strength of materials, materials science, vibration and heat transfer. Preparation of reports, design modifications and new product proposals may require development of sketches and CAD drawings and models. Other related duties as required.
- Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
- BSME and 5-10 years of mechanical engineering design and analysis in the field of industrial rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines or compressors.
- Professional Engineer Registration or ability to gain registration
- Concentration in the power generation or chemical process industries a plus.
- The successful candidate will possess strong SolidWorks skills, and be able to conduct stress and thermal analysis with manual or finite element analysis techniques.
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of pertinent codes, governing regulations and industry practice. Demonstrated experience utilizing the ASME Code Section VIII or Section III desired.
- Experience with high temperature design and knowledge of ASME Code Section III Division 5 is desired.
- Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings, standards and specifications
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles associated with the design, analysis and operation of centrifugal pumps
- Expected travel is less than 10% yearly
- Proficient in SolidWorks, ANSYS, MathCad, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented, organized, works independently, and highly motivated
