Job Description

The Data Governance (DG) Engineer is passionate about data governance, privacy, and compliance and responsible for enabling a Vericast-wide data governance program, including improving existing processes for managing the control and protection of sensitive data and information assets. The DG Engineer reports directly to the Chief Privacy Officer and will focus on ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework including data policies, standards and practices, and compliance with regulatory and contractual security and privacy requirements for critical company data throughout the information lifecycle.The DG Engineer coordinates with data stewards to help develop new data-centric systems and services, maximize the value of data and minimize risks

associated with its use, management, retention, and deletion/destruction, advise on data use requirements and limitations at the Chief Privacy Officer’s direction, and serve as an initial point of escalation for data-centric requests concerning data use, data protection and audit, and data incidents or breaches.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help establish scalable enterprise data governance capabilities including people, processes, and technologies, including building standards, creating data definitions and policies, and training other stakeholders. 20%
  • Manage the enterprise data governance program, including the business processes within, data profiling, enforcing specific data quality rules, and cataloging data items to ensure proper data lineage is established and maintained. 20%
  • Develop, improve, and maintain enterprise data asset inventories, including the creation and maintenance of data dictionaries, metadata, and data lineage information to improve data understanding and governance. 15%
  • Expand data governance across a diverse set of data stewards to ensure consistent processes and outcomes by changing organizational behaviors, developing policies and standards, implementing manual and automated processes, and tracking through established metrics and KPIs. 10%
  • Collaborate with information security, privacy, and compliance teams and stakeholders to ensure enterprise data governance aligns with regulatory, contractual, and organizational obligations and objectives. 10%
  • Oversee the implementation and management of data governance platform technologies such as Collibra or similar tools, serving as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the data governance platform. 10%
  • Assist business owners and company leadership in using company data assets to achieve business and functional goals with maximum efficiency and minimal friction, while maintaining compliance with all appropriate legal and contractual requirements. 5%
  • Manage external data requests, including data sharing agreements, privacy requests, and regulatory inquiries, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual obligations. 5%
  • Lead audits and monitor data usage, access, and handling to identify and address potential issues or breaches. 5%

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Science, Information Management, or a related discipline.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3+ years of direct experience in data analysis, data governance, data management or data modeling, focused on large-scale project management and oversight, at a mid-sized organization or larger, preferably with experience in data-regulated industries
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard frameworks and practices for data governance and data quality, including source system profiling tools and methods, writing data quality rules (business facing and coded), data lineage and data catalog development, and data protection
  • Knowledge of data architecture, data risk, and technology solutions for data management
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more data query and transformation techniques and/or tools to navigate and manipulate data sets and stores, including SQL or similar query languages, data quality tools, and/or ETL
  • Strong understanding of data catalogs, metadata management, data lineage, and other data governance concepts and practices, including data classification, access control, and external data requests and audits
  • Experience and expertise in administering and configuring data governance platforms such as Collibra or similar tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Knowledge of data-related regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues, including practical experience with privacy laws such as GLBA,CCPA, GDPR and privacy compliance implementation
  • Experience working in organizations with geographically dispersed teams and complex technical environments
  • Understanding of end-to-end data supply chain from production to consumption and data lineage

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES

  • Currently hold or willingness to attain certifications in one or more subject matter areas such as data management and governance (DGSP, CDMP), privacy (CIPP, CDPSE), or equivalent disciplines.

Maintains knowledge and awareness of current data governance and privacy trends, methods and technologies related to data management, regulations, and industry best practices with a focus on continual service improvement.
  • PRIVACY SKILLS: Ability to analyze and have in-depth understanding of evolving privacy and data protection laws and regulations (CCPA/CPRA, VACDPA, GLBA, HIPAA, etc.) and related client contractual requirements (e.g., data acquisition/collection, usage, transfer, etc.) to assist in compliance efforts with respect to same. Assist with analysis of data procured for use in products and services, including ensuring proper collection, consent when required, scope of permissible uses, etc. Completes Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), privacy impact assessments, and data sharing agreements.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS: Detail oriented with strong time management and organizational skills. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while handling shifting priorities. Ability to break down complex problems and projects into manageable goals. Proficiency in evaluating and implementing automated solutions for complex processes. Effective in building trust, respect, and cooperation among teams

OTHER

This is a security sensitive position. Employees will have access to and/or manage data and other information of a critical and sensitive nature relative to Vericast and its business segments, partner organizations, and/or its clients. Accordingly, the risk associated with the functions of the position requires a more intensive background review. No Supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Information

Base salary: $95,000-$115,000

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
