Main Purpose of Job
Our client’s customer has delivered two ‘on-premise’ multi-tenant cloud hosting platforms to support the digital strategy. There are several live applications on the Hosting platform, a number currently being on-boarded with more being added to the backlog. The service also provides and hosts services that replace / re-platform existing applications along with new services. The cloud hosting services are not static, new services are being introduced to meet demand and requirements for cloud tenants and application providers as required.
The successful candidate will work as an infrastructure DevOps engineer within the engineering team to build and enhance infrastructure automation tooling for the delivery of an efficient and high-quality private cloud hosting service.
Key responsibilities
Automation of cloud deployments and day 2 operational tasks in a cloud service provider environment
Infrastructure (not software development) DevOps
Creation of operating procedures and knowledge articles / process
Creation and on-going updates to detailed system design and configuration documentation.
Contribute and add input to on-going designs and service improvements.
Experience / Skills Required
• Digital project delivery into the MOD and/or central UK Government clients.
• Exposure to highly secure / operational / mission critical environments
• Must have operational experience in a production setting with VMWare Cloud Foundation operations, including – Aria Automation (formally VRA), VMware Aria Operations, VMware Aria Orchestrator
• Experience in DevOps within an infrastructure and network context
• Linux operating system (Ubuntu preferred) design, deploy and troubleshoot
• Windows OS, active directory and windows centric core services design, deploy and troubleshoot
• Familiar with ITIL service management
• Security best practices, system and OS level security hardening (CISCAT benchmarking etc) security vulnerability scanning tools such as Nessus
• GITOPs experience
• Experience in Terraform, Ansible and ideally packer in an air gapped environment
Desirable knowledge:
• k8 /container / Tanzu Kubernetes grid exposure / experience
Attendance onsite at MOD Corsham required 1 day a week, and the balance as flexible.
Occasional attendance at company offices in Surrey and MOD Portsmouth.
