JOB SUMMARY Provides leadership in developing and maintaining an ongoing training plan related to clinical documentation and coding improvement. Develops and delivers educational programs and presentations. Serves as a resource for coding requirements and updates. Facilitates strategies for monitoring third-party payor audits and ensures accurate and optimum payor reimbursement. . The Lead Inpatient Coding Consultant / Educator will educate the following staff: Inpatient Coders Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) Auditors Providers The Lead IP CS/E will educate the above staff on changing documentation, coding rules, and guidance that will impact hospital coding, reimbursement, denials and reporting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, secures approval, and updates the training plan based on internal necessity, new requirements, and published regulations. Ensures all training materials are recorded, documented, and archived.
- Regularly participates in the development of education and training on documentation for accurate coding practices and compliance issues.
- Conduct training on CMS and AHA coding guidelines, state and federal coding changes.
- Implements timely corrective action to prevent payor payment denials.
- Identifies trends in clinical documentation and code assignments, evaluates the causes and takes appropriate steps to effect favorable problem resolution or provide explanation of any variables.
- Coordinates, oversees, and collaborates with medical center departments to develop and implement improvements to processes.
- Provides high level strategic oversight for coding quality projects across the medical center.
