General Description Incumbent performs a variety of complex technical services in the installation, configuration, operation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of network services, computer hardware, peripheral equipment and software for the Department. Typical duties include, supporting desktop operating systems and department application software; independently perform a broad range of technical, computer-related services to end-users of the department network; research solutions to problems and provide input on implementation of new hardware, software and communication technologies; use independent judgment and decision making in the diagnosis and resolution of end-user and system problems. Personal conduct and behavior (on-duty as well as off-duty) must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public’s trust or confidence in the agency or its members. Performs technical tasks in the analysis and troubleshooting and resolution of hardware failures; respond to user request for service; analyze needs of users, formulate plans and implement solutions to meet end-user technology needs; provide cost effective strategy in all solutions implemented. Provide network support; including but not limited to, network protocol issues, network operating systems, user setup and maintenance, e-mail, routing and switching, and backup software. Protect the integrity of the Department’s network; provide network support when needed; monitor adherence to Department policies and requirements relating to access to and network security systems; document and report network security issues in accordance with Department policy. Ensure network services are maintained; troubleshoot network related issues, maintain network backups; ensure daily, weekly and emergency backup procedures are performed in accordance with Department policy; perform file application and system recovery when needed; maintain backup and recovery applications and associated data bases. Configure, install and maintain all end-user hardware, software and peripherals; install, test and maintain software; maintain operations data basis in accordance with Department procedures. Support virtual desktop environment for end-users. Support secure wireless network infrastructure. Support network copiers, Windows software and Department keycard access system, as needed. Correct and document operational problems and discrepancies, including program changes and procedural changes; communicate changes in operating procedures and techniques to all Department personnel. Assist in the identification, evaluation and recommendation of technology needs, and resources; assist in the development of the annual budget for technology needs; identify and qualify cost effective technology resources; prepare written reports on recommendations. Assist in evaluating and ordering new hardware and software; work with vendors relating to both purchasing and RMA authorizations; complete, track and monitor supply request. Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with fellow employees, other governmental agency representatives, vendor representatives, and the general public. Remain educated in the latest IT techniques and applications, be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of various types of complex hardware and software applications and operations; keep technology skills up-to-date learning new or modified procedures and reading technical manuals as needed. Provide individual training and support for user on basic PC, applications, and basic networking, as required. Operate camera and record Law Board meetings Assist Internal Affairs with computer investigation, as needed. Supervise outside IT subcontractors. Possess and maintain the physical ability necessary to perform the essential duties and task of the position. Maintain an acceptable level of availability for work. Other/Marginal Duties Complete assigned and self-initiated workloads in a punctual and professional manner. Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned. Live within a thirty mile radius of the Riley County Police Department Education/Experience Any combination of education and experience that demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred. Relevant professional certifications are desirable. Ability to fulfill the position of LASO and TAC as required. Ability to obtain the lowest cost/highest quality item from the most suitable vendor. Ability to recognize the need for upgrades, submit timely and appropriate requests for purchase, and install upgrades in a timely manner. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence and documents in a clear, concise, and understandable manner. The ability to properly complete, forward, and track pertinent supply requests. Ability to properly and appropriately utilize the department’s computer system, to include email, electronic documents, spreadsheets, and technical software. Ability to work with other governmental agencies and providers in order to accomplish job tasks. Willingness to stay up to date with the rapidly changing world of computer technology. Ability to identify and diagnose problems related to computer hardware and software. Ability to provide solutions to problems relating to computer hardware and software.
