Senior Automation Engineer at SwingDev – a hippo company #vacancy #remote

We are a Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company from Silicon Valley – Hippo Insurance. Our mission is to revolutionize home insurance in the US, starting from IoT monitoring devices to our industry-leading software.

How do we want to get there? We need a top-notch talent, just like you!

Putting a lot of effort into hiring top-tier devs, designers, PMs, and QAs, is a proof that we care a lot about tech experience, the attitude, human approach, and what we could call „culture fit”.

„SwingDev is all about people” – yes, it may sound a bit cliche. But whether we’re writing code or just hanging out, we know that people are at the heart of everything we do. We like to have a good time and keep things light, even when we’re tackling big projects. We could brag about what’s making us special, but we’ve boiled it down to two key ingredients: mature, companionable people who, rather than compete, prefer to inspire and have each other’s backs; a culture of trust, empathy, and positivity that keeps us together, lets us interact as teammates and friends, and truly enjoy the ride.

So if you’re a Senior Automation Engineer looking to shake things up and have a good time while you’re at it, you’ve come to the right place.

About the role:

As a pillar of the IT Engineering function at Hippo, you’ll collaborate closely with the IT Operations team and other key business stakeholders to build and maintain a cloud-first infrastructure, creating scalable automated workflows that tie our systems together.

But it’s not just about the tech stuff. We’re looking for someone who can build strong relationships –with customers, partners, and fellow IT team members. You’ll need solid skills in scripting and IT infrastructure, all while ensuring the best customer service experience possible. Plus, we place a high value on mentorship here, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to support and provide feedback to your teammates as they grow.

What will you do?

  • You’ll build automation for IT Operations workflows using programming languages such as PowerShell and Python.
  • You’ll implement API integrations to connect decentralized systems together, enhancing business efficiency and reducing costs.
  • You’ll architect scalable solutions for systems access, leveraging a growth mindset.
  • You’ll manage and enhance Hippo’s MDM environment for macOS and Windows.
  • You’ll engineer scalable solutions to reduce technical debt.
  • You’ll support the enforcement of security standards (antivirus/firewall/patching/two-factor authentication).
  • You’ll act as a key stakeholder in cross-functional projects, highlighting and championing company impact including user experience, security, infrastructure, and others.
  • You’ll translate project requirements into actionable objectives.

We might be a match if you…

  • Have at least 4 years of experience in a Systems Engineer/Automation Engineer or similar role.
  • Bring with you 2+ years of experience in project leadership or management.
  • Understand and/or are familiar with working with APIs for system integrations or automation projects.
  • Have intermediate-to-advanced scripting experience using PowerShell (preferred), Python, or Bash.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in cloud infrastructure tooling such as Azure (preferred) or AWS.
  • Have participated in cross-functional projects, actively contributing to company initiatives across various domains such as user experience, security, infrastructure, and others.
  • Are available in the afternoons – due to collaboration with the United States, evening meetings may occur. Rest assured, we prioritize work-life fit, respect everyone’s private lives, and don’t work at night but we still must ensure that communication between the time zones is effective.

You will get extra points for:

  • Previous experience building systems that meet compliance requirements from any of the following regulations: ISO 27001, PCI, SOC2, SOX.
  • An understanding of RBAC concepts with infrastructure, IdP systems access, and beyond.
  • Experience configuring/managing modern MDM systems such as Jamf, Workspace ONE, Intune, etc.
  • A deep understanding of engineering ticket management, tracking metrics and trends, and defining/enforcing best practices (I.e., Sprint planning & management).
