Job Description Join us at iA American! Our Senior Data and Risk Analyst plays a key role in assisting the risk and underwriting department to uncover insights that lead to better-informed and successful decision-making. This role requires someone with the knowledge and skills to extract data from multiple platforms and turn it into valuable information and insights. This individual is also responsible for understanding the business context, identifying critical data, separating the noise, and then creating comprehensive scorecards (operational and management) of KPIs and KRIs to monitor the health of our business. Join a team led by our VP of Underwriting and Risk: John Cranmore . Your impact: Extract data from company databases or other sources using query and programming languages and perform reconciliations to ensure accuracy. Implements changes where necessary. Use features to develop statistical models leveraged in production by the Actuarial, Pricing, and Risk team. Analyze large and highly complex datasets to reveal trends and to determine impact. Build complex dimensional data models and reports from the bottom up. Create presentation/visualization of data to see beyond the numbers while transforming raw data into actionable insights and recommendations. Create risk-related dashboards and insightful reports to be automated. Leads the effort of monitoring, auditing, and analyzing product performance to identify complex issues, recognize opportunities, make recommendations, and implement measures to achieve overall profitability and growth in all lines of business. Assumes project ownership and works independently to complete projects from beginning to end. What it takes: Bachelor’s degree required in Business or related field of study (e.g., Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Math/Actuarial Science) or equivalent experience. 2-7 years of experience in a Data Analyst or Actuarial Analyst role. Data Visualization Tools: 2+ years of experience with Qlik data visualization software and data load editor functionality (will consider data visualization experience with comparable tools such as Tableau/PowerBI) Languages: 2+ years of experience with SQL, R, and Python to understand and write queries and scripts. Fluent with standard predictive modeling techniques such as GLMs, logistic regression, and gradient boosting algorithms is a plus. Advanced Excel Skills (Pivot Tables, Macros, VBA) a plus Power Query a major plus Exposure to ETL and Data Warehouse methods and techniques. Hands-on experience working with groups to analyze, define and develop business requirements and workflow processes, including IT-related requirements. Strong analytical, facilitation, and presentation skills Providing key analytical skills to discover and understand major business problems, and document the requirements for IT systems both as text and models.
