Within Optum’s Home & Community business, the Data Science team impacts the quality care delivered to patients and the experience of field clinician performing in-home visits. The Logistics Intelligence functional area within the Data Science team especially focusses on the efficiency of field operations – including routing optimization, territory formation, and network coverage. Their primary functions are Optimizing the experience of both their members and practitioners, Automating complex manual tasks, and adding Intelligence with innovative ML/AI solutions, geospatial analytics, and home-grown algorithms. Home & Community’s Data Science team is uniquely positioned within their operations team. They are involved in every aspect of their projects, and their responsibilities included problem formulation, solutioning, requirement gathering, research, development, implementation, reporting, and ongoing production support. As a member of the Logistics Intelligence team, you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions, implementing them, and supporting them in operations. You will also have opportunities to interreact and collaborate with colleagues and the diverse array of projects across the broader Data Science team. Primary Responsibilities: Independently design, develop, and test the technical execution of innovative solutions which optimize field operations while satisfying operational constraints, business rules, and requirements from stakeholders Support production implementation of models and applications Ongoing performance monitoring and bias testing of deployed applications Develop and support visual reports of model results for non-technical business partners and stakeholders Support leadership, business partners, and stakeholders as an expert in field operations and logistics Analyze the business value of strategic initiatives and provider recommendations to leadership Ad Hoc analysis of business performance and investigation of operational issues Serve as a leader and mentor for colleagues and junior Data Scientists Peer review code and processes developed by colleagues Create and maintain project plans and technical documentation You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: 5+ years in applied data analytics and programming using Python 5+ years in optimization techniques and algorithms – e.g., constraint programming, gradient decent, unsupervised machine learning, etc. 3+ years in query optimization and data engineering with MS SQL Server 3+ years developing and implementing automated business processes 2+ years in logistics, operations research, supply chain, network optimization, or related field 2+ years with data visualization and business intelligence (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS) Experience collaborating with stakeholders and determining the needs of end users Familiar with predictive modelling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence Proficiency in converting raw data into actionable information and strategic insight Proven ability to design custom optimization techniques and non-obvious solutions, when out-of-the-box solutions are insufficient Proven acumen for problem solving, and the ability to work independently and resourcefully even when there is lack of documentation, fragmented data sources, unstructured requirements, and ambiguity Proven ability to independently research and learn new skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ArcGIS’s tools for network optimization and territory formation Experience with Azure Cloud for model development and deployment Experience in healthcare analytics Experience developing, documenting, and deploying supervised ML models and AI solutions Experience with infrastructure administration (e.g. Windows Server, SQL Server, Tableau Server, Azure Cloud) Patent applications and inventorship *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
