SeKON is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to support NIH NIDDK IT Services. The Senior Linux Engineer serves as a resource for NIDDK service desk and computer user community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Linux Engineer serves as a resource for the NIDDK service desk and computer user community. The primary responsibilities include performing the full range of Linux administration tasks, such as:

Defining and implementing standardized server builds Defining and implementing application configurations Recommending and implementing hardening guidelines Administering a centralized Linux patching/configuration management system (e.g., Puppet) Additionally, the Senior Linux Engineer should be familiar with Apache/Tomcat and similar technologies. They will serve as subject matter expert for Linux, providing recommendations, guidance, and technical assistance to the NIDDK scientific community.

The role involves coordinating with the COR and NIDDK/CTB technical staff, reporting on progress, developing tools for system-wide use in developing applications, and preparing system documentation. Senior Linux Engineers must monitor and respond to application and system alerts according to established monitoring plans, coordinate communications channels during major incidents, and record problem investigations in the NIH My IT Service Management System, JIRA, or a designated system in a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience in IT customer support, or an Associate degree or H.S. diploma with at least fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience. Technical computer and customer service skills are required. Must obtain a Level 5 (NACIC) security clearance within six (6) months of contract award if not already held. Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management (ITIL) v3 is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
