The MSP Technical Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing technical projects within a managed service provider environment. This role involves coordinating the efforts of internal technical teams, external vendors, and clients to ensure the successful delivery of projects within scope, on time, and within budget. The Technical Project Manager will also serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing technical expertise, guidance, and project updates.
Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Initiation:
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets, and obtain approval from stakeholders.
- Identify and secure necessary resources, including technical personnel, equipment, and third-party vendors.
- Project Execution and Management:
- Lead project teams in executing project plans, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with technical teams to allocate resources effectively and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during project execution.
- Conduct regular project status meetings with clients and internal stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, risks, and issues.
- Implement project management best practices and methodologies to optimize project delivery processes.
- Stakeholder Communication and Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining regular communication to address concerns, provide updates, and manage expectations.
- Foster positive relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, building trust and credibility through effective communication and collaboration.
- Risk Management and Issue Resolution:
- Identify potential risks and issues that may impact project delivery, and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
- Proactively monitor project progress and performance metrics, and take corrective action as needed to keep projects on track.
- Escalate significant risks or issues to senior management and stakeholders as appropriate, providing recommendations for resolution.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project plans, status reports, and change logs.
- Generate regular reports on project progress, budget expenditures, and key performance indicators for distribution to stakeholders.
- Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate lessons learned and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience as a technical project manager, preferably within a managed service provider or IT services environment.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, or Asana.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
