Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in digital media/web development, communications, design, or a related field and two years of web/digital development experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position. Job Summary: The Web Design and Development Specialist at the University of Texas Medical Branch works as part of the digital services team within the university’s marketing and communications area. This role guides the design, development, and publishing of university websites and other digital channels. The design and development specialist collaborates extensively with a digital content specialist, the strategic branding team and university IT professionals to develop and deploy strategies, tools, and resources to aid the institution in fulfilling its mission of service to multiple constituents via the Internet. Preferred Qualifications: Strong user interface design skills (wireframe and mockups). Graphic design and image editing experience is a major asset. Job Duties: Designs, builds, and helps maintain university websites, working collaboratively across UTMB’s four mission areas and the institutional branding and design team to deploy a consistent visual aesthetic for all web properties. Provides general website development and maintenance support using the university’s content management system. Conceptualizes and manages the information architecture for web projects through the creation of wireframes and mockups and organizes the pages and content of a web property for the best user experience. Supports content management system users by providing guidance on how best to use the system, and teaches related website strategy/skills to stakeholders and content editors. Understands and helps drive compliance with federal and state regulations (i.e. accessible design), good design principles (UX/UI), and UTMB brand standards and best practices. Creates research- and education-focused websites for various institutes, labs, centers, programs, and departments within UTMB’s Academic Enterprise and supports those websites and other sites across the institution with regular maintenance and updates. Aids in the effective use of the campus and patient signage system, campus monitors, digital billboards, and other public visual display channels to support communication, promotion, wayfinding, and related objectives. Performs related duties as required in support of digital team activities. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong web and user interface design skills with an ability to translate cohesive and branded wireframes and mockups into well-built, functional, and engaging web pages Experience using a web content management system (knowledge of Sitefinity is a plus) HTML, CSS proficiency are highly desired, and JavaScript skills are a plus Ability to work with project management software and an online/shared document management system (experience with MS Office 360 suite of tools is a plus) Familiarity with and ability to support search engine optimization Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work with images, videos, links, embeds, and related technologies (experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus) Exceptional time management skills with an ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Superior organizational skills with attention to detail and demonstrated creativity Comfort with a wide variety of projects with a high level of digital proficiency Experience using a content management system for web publishing. Comfort working as part of a highly motivated and very collaborative team, and equally at ease in intense, self-directed work. Salary Range: Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule: Partial Remote, onsite as needed. Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and as needed on occasion.
