We are looking for a Full-Time Manager of Communications to join the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics Syed Lab, which focuses on new technologies and algorithms for biomedical sciences and education across multiple nationwide grants. In this position, you will provide communications leadership across multiple projects to spread awareness, information, and achievements with partners, stakeholders, and the community. You will manage campaigns, contribute to manuscripts, submit reports, and manage program outreach to ensure the success of the team’s goals and objectives. You will collaborate with others in the AIM-AHEAD program, including project managers, project coordinators, and others in large NIH consortiums and managers throughout the university and various funded programs. Position Summary: Develops and manages a broad range of highly responsible communications support through writing and editing, counsel to faculty, staff and executive leadership and/or publications management and/or management of health communications/education programs. Position Key Accountabilities: Responsible for overall project management, project budgets, timelines as assigned, and evaluation of project work. Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients, sometimes concerning sensitive information. Works with executive leadership to develop and communicate strategic messages. Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials. Writes news/feature articles for publication. Collaborates with others in Public Affairs and managers throughout the university. May interact with corporate or community representatives. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. Performs other duties as assigned Certification/Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field. Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
