Optum has a strategic 10-year partnership with Northern Light Health, a 10-hospital health system based in eastern Maine. Optum’s Clinical Informatics team is critical to support Northern Light Health’s strategic objectives, and the Inpatient Medical Informatics Officer (MIO) provides clinical leadership within the inpatient domain of care delivery to advance utilization of clinical information systems within Northern Light Hospitals. The role supports the stated goals and objectives of the local and system strategic initiatives.
*This can be a 30-40 hour a week role to allow for continued clinical practice. *
The inpatient MIO will work collaboratively with NLH/Optum Informatics Governance as well as local and system resources to direct the development, deployment, re-engineering, optimization, and integration of clinical information systems supporting inpatient clinicians and patient care. The inpatient MIO will work closely with the Informatics leadership group to align strategic vision and priorities for enterprise-wide informatics as it pertains to inpatient care delivery. S/he provides leadership, consultation, and coordination for the transitions of care processes and outcomes in coordination with the regional triads (MIO, VP of IS and NIO) across the areas of specialty.
With direction and oversight from local and system, and informatics leadership, s/he will represent provider priorities on organizational councils and/or teams at both a local and system wide level, focused on inpatient patient care and local/system inpatient operations . S/He will be a liaison between inpatient providers and information systems leadership and will work in close partnership across the Northern Light Health to ensure clinical multidisciplinary leadership of pertinent clinical IT projects and systems. The Inpatient MIO leads clinicians in the design and execution of technology-enabled changes optimize inpatient patient outcomes, safety, quality of care and operational efficiency. This individual assists with the identification, evaluation, and assessment of new care delivery technology, developing recommendations on the impact of integration with existing inpatient workflows and systems.

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Establishes and manages standards of medical practice with IT solutions and projects
+ Provides vision and strategic support for Inpatient medical informatics
+ Embraces and leads change and clinical transformation relating to Inpatient clinical informatics and integrated technology
+ Engages the medical staff in decision making, through SMEs; provides direction, supervision, support, inspiration and mentoring for developing leaders in clinical informatics
+ Supports the development of inpatient medical informatics planning, process improvement, adoption, growth, system implementation, measurement, and usability
+ Networks and benchmarks with other hospitals and health systems to develop medical informatics processes, new approaches and opportunities, engagement strategies, and leadership for increased quality, standardization and cost savings
+ Works with Informatics and Medical Leadership to establish quality standards for medical informatics promoting patient safety, and quality performance and reporting
+ Engages with care providers across disciplines and across organizations to build relationships, create collaboration and foster understanding and engagement of clinical health information technology
+ Is responsible for the measurement of adoption and usability within the medical staff in the inpatient setting, assisting clinicians to become efficient and effective users of clinical systems
+ Engages medical staff and other key stakeholders in the development, integration of and use of inpatient clinical information systems to enhance the care experience and patient safety
+ Acts as the inpatient champion in new technology implementation, upgrades and modifications that effect clinician workflows, assisting in design, testing and education efforts
+ Participates in IT contract negotiations as directed for related products and services
+ Works with IT and Informatics leadership to ensure that the system capital and operational priorities for information technology are well planned and aligned with overall NLH priorities

**Required Qualifications:**
+ 5+ years of clinical experience as an advanced practitioner or physician
+ Experience in Cerner Inpatient, supporting multi-hospital settings
+ Clinical Medical Informatics experience
+ Background in an acute care setting
+ Experience leading large-scale projects and engagement management
+ Proficiency in MS Office Suite
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Board certification in Clinical Informatics
+ Taken, or planning to take within 12 months of starting employment formal Informatics education classes (i.e. AMIA 10×10)
+ Clinical Decision Support, Care Pathway Design, and Clinical Quality experience
+ Cerner Provider Architect class
+ Proven relationship management skills in complex situations
+ Self-motivated with individual leadership and team collaboration skills
+ History of fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion and driving innovation

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
