Job/Position DescriptionPerforms highly complex (senior level) database development and administration work. Work involves planning, developing, maintaining, monitoring, testing, and issue resolution for databases. Coordinates with service provider and application groups to install new versions, new enhancements, and newly released databases. Monitors applications for space utilization on test, development, and production environments. Monitors database performance and adjust as required to maximize efficiency. Works with service provider and IT Applications team to setup production jobs, schedule jobs, monitor jobs, and performance tune the jobs that run with job schedulers. Archives, restores, and recovers databases as required. Creates and maintains appropriate documentation. Evaluates and recommends goals and objectives for the use and improvement of an efficient and cost-effective database system and software packages. Evaluates and implements database policies and procedures; Develops goals and objectives for the use and improvement of an efficient and cost-effective database system. May train others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job FunctionsOversees and performs the design, development, and maintenance of databases including structures, behaviors, performance, security, and recovery. Monitors database performance and implements efficiency improvements. Ensures that data integrity and data security is maintained. Identifies and resolves problems. Prepares status updates for supervisor. Analyzes, designs, plans, and performs database upgrades and maintenance. Coordinates with service provider and application groups to install new versions, new enhancements, and newly released databases. Monitors database performance and implements efficiency improvements. Coordinates backup monitoring and fixes issues related to backups. Modifies existing databases and database management systems. Analyzes objects and databases. Performs database migration. Analyzes and reports the performance of database operations. (50%) Coordinates with application development, customers, and support teams to ensure their needs are met from a database perspective. Participates in the planning, design, administration, operation, monitoring, maintenance, user security, and system parameter settings for databases. Coordinates backup, restore, and recover tasks that apply to production, development, and test databases. (20%) Evaluates users’ requests for new data elements, data systems, data migration, and data integration. Provides input and analysis to other teams regarding database related topics and decisions. Sets-up views, roles, stored procedures, and database links to allow use of databases. Creates tables and provides the data required to fulfill requests. Assists customers and other groups in troubleshooting, testing, and resolving database issues. Evaluates and recommends database software packages for potential acquisitions. May train others. (15%) Develops standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment. Ensures audit and security standards are adhered to and documented appropriately. Maintains data integrity and security. Creates and maintains data dictionaries. Participates in security and risk evaluations for applications. Maintains practices within established policies, regulations, and guidelines.
