Description The Department of Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Application Administrator. About the Opportunity This position will serve as a technical operations team member in Information Technology Services by providing support and maintenance for research administration software. It will participate in the implementation of iterative code deployments; monitor system performance and perform maintenance tasks; and provide customer support by resolving help tickets. Wellness programs What you’ll do: Provide support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for research administration software, including WVU+kc, Research Application Administration (RAA), Kuali Build, and WVU Research Administration Portal (WRAP). This includes code migration, change control, application security, performance, and availability. Participate in the implementation of iterative code deployments to facilitate system enhancements and bug fixes. Monitor daily use and performance of supported applications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise; communicate extended outages using ITS incident management process. Participate in a rotational after-hour on-call schedule with other operations staff. Maintain knowledge of overall infrastructure of supported systems. Identify areas of weakness and recommend solutions or alternatives. Support system upgrades, patches, and database clones. Communicate planned and unplanned outages. Provide quality assurance testing to ensure modifications to software are stable and secure prior to release; utilize automated testing tools and keep test suites updated. Work closely with Research Office staff and other business partners to update or replace tools as needed to align with business processes and deliver modern technology solutions. Provide customer support by resolving help tickets. Analyze tasks and decisions against industry best practices to deliver enterprise-level solutions that meet business needs and align with WVU’s strategic and technical vision. Communicate information clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner to team members and business users. Foster an environment of teamwork and professionalism. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues including business analysts, software developers, application administrators, and business partners. Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to drive continuous improvement. Qualifications Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience in a relevant field. A minimum of four (4) or years of experience in Information Technology. General Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact at all organizational levels and with technical staff, managers, and end users. Demonstrated ability to reason logically and solve problems. Ability to define procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of various recommended solutions. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize as needed. Ability to follow defined processes and procedures. Initiative and motivation to request, accept, and successfully complete tasks independently and on time. Broad knowledge of computer security issues, requirements, and trends, including awareness of information security laws (such as HIPAA) and accepted industry practices for auditing requirements. Ability to self-teach general and specific aspects of unfamiliar software or technologies with little guidance or supervision. Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot system issues and act appropriately to efficiently resolve problems promptly. Knowledge of relational database structures and applications. Oracle preferred. Working knowledge of SQL and other report writing tools. Demonstrated ability to administer servers running multiple operating systems and applicable scripting languages. An intermediate understanding of workflow technologies as used in business process management, technical process management, and job process automation. Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodology Ability to develop technical documentation for peers and general users. Proven experience and understanding of account security in an Oracle/Linux environment. Ability to control and track change management for software code and business functions. Strong ability to assure an adequate final testing environment for code and business functions, including verifying final testing according to strict guidelines, analyzing the results, and assuring proper sign-off controls have been met before moving code and business functions to production.
