GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services.We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.

Performs highly complex (senior-level) server administration work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Information Technology Services Division (ITSD). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, manage vendor support, and be able to collaborate across teams to drive to resolution service requests and incidences. This is a technical position and will require a strong understanding of Linux and Windows System Administration. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provides Linux and Windows system administration and support for users, systems, and services to end-users and/or technical staff.

Provides customer service and answers user inquiries regarding computer software, hardware operation, and the use and interface of systems and software applications; may assist in the design, development, and maintenance of various systems and applications.

Prepares briefings, reports, and evaluations on systems efficiency and utilization; establishes and ensures that appropriate security controls are maintained and enforced, develops procedures, training manuals, and conducts presentations.

Monitors and manages day-to-day operation of servers, and server applications ensuring service level agreement (SLA) compliance, policy, and procedure development, including performing scheduled tasks, and special projects.

Responsible for TxDMV server environment (Windows/Linux) including, but not limited to, design, installation, support, and configuration of physical and virtual (VMware) servers and appliances.

Administers user accounts, profiles, file sharing, and access privileges and security on the servers, as well as hardware/software support.

Collaborates across teams for system Implementations, upgrades, and migrations

Keeps current regarding relevant hardware/software products for system enhancements, researches and recommends network and server hardware and software, as well as improvements for policies, procedures, and processes.

Participates in system testing and validation of the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP); provides input and feedback to DRP and BCP activities.

Assists with the development and maintenance of documentation for procedures and processes.

Reviews and makes suggestions regarding the procurement of information technology equipment.

Provides on the job training for Server Administrators in the operation, installation, and maintenance of the Server environment.

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.

Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.

Works on remediating security issues found/flagged by security scans

Performs highly complex system configuration changes; and collaborates with project teams to deliver technical solutions.

May travel up to 5% of the time. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or the U.S. equivalency thereof) in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, business administration, public administration, or a related field, plus four (4) years of experience in systems management, support, managed services, technical support, design, or architecture consulting. Experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Azure Administration, Linux RedHat Administration, Apache Tomcat, Volumes and file systems, SSL Certs, and/or Vulnerability assessment and remediation. Knowledge of Windows Server and/or VMWare is also a preferred.
