The Ideal Candidate The UNIX Systems Engineer position is responsible for designing, building, configuring, and maintaining UNIX based systems & infrastructure within Genesco. The position includes monitoring of system performance, implementing security measures within SLAs, troubleshooting, patch management, & automation implementation to ensure stable and reliable systems for our associated applications and business partners. The UNIX Systems Engineer collaborates with other IT team members and stakeholders as needed to support and implement new projects & technologies. How You Will Make an Impact Daily System Administration Tasks: Install, configure, & maintain UNIX based system operating systems and hardware (AIX, SUSE, Redhat) within on premise and cloud-based environments. Ensure System Availability, performance, and security with regular maintenance, updates, and automation implementation. Troubleshoot OS related issues as required. User Management/Access Control: Create and Manage Users for both local based accounts and centralized accounts. Maintenance of groups, permissions, and access restrictions to ensure system integrity and security. System Monitoring: Ensure all systems have adequate monitoring for all critical system resources and processes. Work to proactively improve logging and alerting to prevent future issues and outages. System Security: Ensure that all OS images are compliant & update to date with our security policies and guidelines. Deploy security tools and ensure compliance with security scans. Systems Integration & Application Troubleshooting: Possess a working knowledge and understanding of system administration and architecture interdependencies. Documentation – Ensure all documentation is update and complete in centralized location. Lead & participate in internal team led training. Scripting and Automation – Develop & maintain shell scripts and automation tools to ensure system consistency & improve efficiency of administrative tasks. Hardware Management – Ensure health of physical systems, engage vendor support as needed, ensure systems firmware are up to date. Storage, Backup and Recovery – Maintain System Storage (Block and Network), Ensure all systems are successfully backed up & all systems are configured accordingly for Disaster Recovery procedures. Lifecycle Management – Participate in Systems Lifecycle management including planning & design, capacity planning & reporting, and System upgrades and updates. New Technology & Education: Engineer will engage in ongoing education and training to ensure knowledge and skills are current with latest technologies. Collaborate with project leaders, network, storage, middleware, dbas, and application teams to evaluate & implement technology projects. Experience and Skills You’ll Need to Have BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent relative experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience with Enterprise Linux Systems (Suse/Redhat) Minimum of 3 years of experience with IBM P-Series systems & AIX Operating Systems Minimum of 3 years of experience implementing automation platforms such as Ansible. Experience with VMware virtualization and tools required. Experience working with enterprise storage solutions required. Experience implementing monitoring, patching and management tools required. Experience with UNIX integration with LDAP, Active Directory, Centralized Identity Management Solutions strongly preferred. Proven experience implementing & maintaining highly available systems. Experience implementing disaster recovery policies and procedures. Experience working with container technologies such as podman, docker, Kubernetes, Openshift. Experience with implementing compliance standards (CIS, STIG) Experience with selinux & AppArmor (troubleshooting and implementing rules) Experience working with middleware components such as tomcat, WebSphere Application service, Apache Requires 24×7 production support and on call rotation.
